KEITH SHOW SUNDAY AND MONDAY AUGUST 12th AND 13th 2007

The preceding weeks up to the show being held, were very wet and the ground
was saturated. The Sunday show went ahead as planned but the weather was not
particularly good which reduced the attendance. After torrential rain on Sunday
afternoon it was decided to cancel the Monday show for Health and Safety reasons
since the ground was in a very bad state. The situation was further exacerbated
by a ban on livestock movements due to an outbreak of foot and mouth in the South
of England. This picture gives an overview of the condition of the show park on the
Tuesday showing the clearing up operation in progress.

THE MORAY FIRTH AS SEEN FROM CULLEN BEACH IN LATE AUGUST 2007

Cullen is very popular as a summer retreat for lots of Glaswegians on their
'trades holidays' and numerous other people of all nationalities from all
parts of the world. The lovely beach, nice golf course and of course the
delicious ice cream. On a Sunday in the height of the summer if you arrive
by car it is very difficult to get parked near the ice cream shop. Then it's
down to the beach area for a spot of people viewing and to enjoy your
slider or cone before it melts, and enjoy the view over the sea as seen here.

THE BALLOCH HILL OUTSIDE KEITH AS VIEWED FROM THE HIGH CUTHIL

At a height of over just 1200 feet ( 400 metres ) the summit of the Balloch
commands a wonderful view of Keith and the surrounding countryside. Plug
for the next picture in the series. In days long gone it was common practice
to climb the Balloch to collect Seagulls eggs for boiling or frying. Deemed to
make lovely scones when incorporated in the recipe. But you had to beware of
the gulls who would scream past you and were only protecting their domain
and commonly nests with young.

KEITH FROM THE APTLY NAMED KILL BRAE - WINTER SLEDGING DOWN HERE !

Keith lies in a valley called Strathisla. Main industry now is Agriculture. In days
gone by there were two woollen mills and this was the largest employer in the
town. Now that has all gone and the latest venture as of September 2007 is for
a large Tesco superstore on the site of what once was Robert Laidlaw and Sons
woollen manufacturer and involves re-alignment of the main A96 road plus sadly
demolition of some perfectly good private houses. Progress !!! Try to pick out
in the picture, a new office block which has been built on the site of the old
Mansfield Hotel. The new building certainly stands out viewed from here.

INVERGORDON - ONE OF MANY MURALS DISPLAYED ALL OVER THE TOWN

The painting shown is one of many dotted around the town with varying themes
all related to Invergordon. The window and the car are real. The pink shutters
are part of the painting. Invergordon boasts visits from some of the largest
cruise ships from all over the world. The deep water facilities are ideal for
these large vessels to anchor and allow the passengers to easily disembark
and visit the town itself or partake of the various bus trips to attractions in the
area. Lets hope the visitors appreciate the lovely paintings close at hand.
